The Liberty XL-2 is back in the air after its current owner, Discovery Aviation of Melbourne, Florida, announced that it had sold a pair of the trainers to a flight training organization in South Korea. The two-seat single had been out of production since 2008.

The XL-2, to editorialize just a bit, is a cool plane. It’s a great-handling side-by-side two seater with excellent visibility, single-lever power and great fuel economy (around 5 gph). Today’s version can be had with the Garmin G500 avionics suite with a Genesys STEC autopilot. That’s the model the company is delivering to South Korea and the one that, most likely, most customers will opt for. The price of the Garmin equipped XL-2 is $362,000.
