With the FAA’s general aviation ADS-B rebate program coming to a close on September 18, significantly fewer than half of the offered 20,000 rebates for ADS-B Out installation have been claimed. The program offers a $500 rebate to, according to the FAA, “help owners of less-expensive general aviation aircraft equip now with the required avionics.” As of January 1, 2020, any aircraft flying in airspace that currently requires a transponder will be required to have ADS-B Out.
For owners that still need to equip their aircraft, it’s not too late to save $500. The last day to reserve a rebate is September 18, but the installation doesn’t have to be immediate. There’s a 150-day window to get the equipment in the plane and complete a successful validation flight (and submit the rebate paperwork). Information needed to make a reservation is the aircraft tail number, the make and model of the ADS-B equipment that the owner plans on installing and a scheduled installation date.
