Van’s Aircraft’s RV-12 has gotten an update and is on display at AirVenture to show off its new features. Perhaps the biggest change to the all-metal, two-seat LSA is the engine. The fuel injected Rotax 912iS Sport is now an option for Van’s new RV-12iS model, along with the original Rotax 912ULS. Both 100-hp Rotax 912 models can burn either unleaded autogas or 100LL.

In addition to the engine, the RV-12iS got electric flaps, stronger landing gear, and a reconfigured fuel tank. Van’s also increased the electrical capacity, allowing for additional avionics choices. With a boost in baggage capacity, the new model has more room for carrying stuff as well. Van’s says the RV-12 will now carry two 185-pound people, 20 gallons of fuel and 50 pounds of baggage.

The RV-12iS is available as either a fly-away aircraft or a kit. The fly-away model can be licensed as an SLSA, the kit version as an E-LSA. Average estimated build time for a RV-12iS kit plane is 700-900 hours. The kit price runs $67,430 – $87,910 depending on the options chosen.
