L-3 Aviation Products and ATP Flight School have partnered to bring the avionics manufacturer’s Lynx® NGT-9000 ADS-B touchscreen transponder to 100 of the school’s 250-plus training aircraft, with the option for additional units as the fleet expands. Deliveries of the Lynx units will continue through the end of 2016, ahead of the FAA’s 2020 ADS-B mandate.

In addition to its Airline Career Pilot Program, ATP provides more than 4,500 flight certificates yearly. Among its fleet are of Piper and Cessna twin- and single-engine aircraft, and those aircraft will be equipped with the Lynx NGT-9000 plus options, including L-3’s ADS-B Traffic Advisory System (ATAS) with aural alerting and its Class B embedded Terrain Awareness Warning System (eTAWS). The system is designed to enhance safety and increase situational awareness as pilots train for professional airline careers.

The Lynx NGT-9000 is the first ADS-B touchscreen transponder to offer a software suite of NextGen situational awareness features, including traffic and weather data. The unit displays NEXRAD graphical and textual weather, as well as moving maps. Up-to-the-minute NOTAMs, TFRs, and Winds and Temps Aloft data are also included.
