It’s a festive time for Pilatus, the Swiss airplane maker, because it has officially started delivering the first of its new PC-24 jets. Launch customer for the twinjet is PlaneSense. The company has an order for six of the jets, which retail for around $9 million a piece. That’s around $4.5 million per engine, which is about the cost of one PC-12. So the PC-24 is twice as large a number as the 12, it costs twice as much and flies nearly twice as fast (440 knots true, compared to 280 for the PC-12).

PlaneSense and Pilatus are long-time partners. The Portsmouth, New Hampshire, based fractional provider already operates 36 PC-12s, serving customers in the Northeast. The PC-24 will give its customers greater options for longer trips flown much faster while providing the roomy cabin and cargo loading flexibility for which the PC-12 is well known.
