New Airline Rule: If You‘d Like To Vape, Please Step Outside

US Bans Vaping on Commercial Flights

Gemini Sparkle

Key Takeaways:

  • The U.S. Transportation Department has banned e-cigarettes on all flights.
  • The ban is primarily due to safety concerns, as the devices are prone to spreading noxious vapor and, more critically, catching fire.
  • Recent incidents, including a viral video of an e-cigarette igniting in a person's pocket, highlighted the fire risk associated with these devices.

It’s not clear what it is about vaping that’s so irritating to many of us. Maybe it’ll just take some time to get used to them, as was the case with cell phones 25 years ago. So its’ a good, thing in our view, that the Transportation Department has banned e-cigarettes, even if it’s for a better reason than ours. The e-Cig ban, the feds say, is because the devices have a nasty tendency not only to spread noxious vaper, but to go up in flames, too. One video last week went viral showing an e-Cig device going up in flames inside a person’s shirt pocket. While some airlines have already banned the devices, the nationwide prohibition against them made the point moot.
