Key Takeaways:

  • The iLevil series is a multi-channel sensor providing dual-band ADS-B In data to iOS/Android tablets and experimental aircraft, though it is incompatible with ForeFlight Mobile or Garmin Pilot.
  • The iLevil 3's optional GPS source meets ADS-B Out position requirements for experimental aircraft, and it can activate Mode-S transponder extended squitter for the 2020 ADS-B mandate.
  • It features an SD card slot to record and save all flight data (e.g., position, airspeed, altitude) in formats like Excel, FDR, and GDX for analysis and replay in applications like Google Earth or X-Plane.
  • The iLevil 3 AW and SW models were released on July 25, 2016, priced at $1,395 and $1,195 respectively.

The iLevil series is, in essence, a multi-channel sensor designed to provide data streams to other products, most typically a tablet running navigation apps, but also to permanently mounted equipment in Experimental aircraft.

With dual-band ADS-B In capability, theunit is both iOS- and Android-compatible.The unit isn’t compatible with either ForeFlight Mobile or Garmin Pilot, both ofwhich use proprietary ADS-B/GPS sensors.

The iLevil 3’s optional GPS source, claims the company, meets the position source performance requirements for ADS-B Out in the experimental aircraft market. (The unit doesn’t, however, provide ADS-B Out capability, but the signal for an ADS-B Out unit.) The iLevil 3 also has the ability to communicate with currently installed transponders (Mode-S) to activate extended squitter, meeting the ADS-B mandate for 2020 on experimental and light sport aviation.

In addition, the unit accepts a standard SD memory card, which records and saves all your flight information. Theinfo then can be transferred into an Excel spreadsheet to gain a clear picture of your flight (position, airspeed, altitude, attitude, etc.). The data is also saved in FDR and GDX format, which allows users to replay their flight in an X plane flight simulator, Google Earth and more.

The iLevil 3 AW and SW releases on July 25, 2016 atAirVenture, and the starting prices remain the same on both units as previous iLevil products—$1,195 for the SW and $1,395 for the AW.
