The BJ-1b Duster is designed for amateur builders with an estimated construction time of 700 hours. Both plans and kit components are available. Its shoulder-type wings have a single wooden spar with plywood ribs and plywood covering. Wing features include washedout tips, trailing-edge flaps, airbrakes, and ailerons. The fuselage is also built from plywood, with straight sides for simplified construction. Only the nose and fairings are fiberglass. Seating is for one pilot with the option of an open or closed cockpit. Also, optional power can be
added without altering the design of the aircraft. Duster manufacturers are looking at a number of refinements and additions, including a 26-hp powerplant.
