GE Aviation has announced the construction of a brand new facility in the Czech Republic that will manufacture engines for Textron Aviation’s latest single-engine turboprop. GE Aviation stated that it will be utilizing a portion of its $400 million investment in Europe in order to create the turboprop development, test and production facility. This all-new advanced turboprop engine is creating a lot of buzz in its own right, as GE is stating that it in comparison to competitors the new engine will get 20 percent improved fuel burn, as well as a 10 percent better cruise power.
ÃWe like to build things in the Czech Republic and there is a deep pool of engineering talent in the country,Ã stated Paul Corkery, GE’s advanced turbo prop program manager, ÃWe’ve been building aircraft engines here since the early days of aviation, but this new center will take it to a whole new level.Ã
The GE Turboprop Center of Excellence Facility is expected to employ over 500 engineers and workers, and is anticipating delivering the new engine to Textron, as well as the the rest of its customers, by the year 2020.
