JAVELIN “WICHAWK”€

Gemini Sparkle

Key Takeaways:

  • The Wichawk is a robust sport biplane, structurally similar to the Boeing Stearman, capable of withstanding significant G-forces (up to 12 positive, 6 negative).
  • It offers flexible configurations including standard side-by-side or optional tandem seating, and can adapt to various engine types, though a 180-hp Lycoming is common.
  • Constructed with wooden spars, alloy ribs for the wings, and a welded steel tube fuselage, the aircraft is now marketed by its designer, Dave Blanton, rather than Javelin.

The Wichawk is structurally similar to the Boeing Stearman biplane and is stressed for up to 12 Gs positive and 6 Gs negative. Standard seating is for two in a side-by-side configuration, which is rather unusual for a sport biplane of its type. Optional tandem seating is also available. While the 180-hp Lycoming is most often used, the ship can be adapted to house various horizontally opposed or radial engines. The wings make use of wooden spars with lightweight alloy ribs, and the fuselage is constructed from welded steel tubes. Javelin no longer sells the Wichawk. It is now marketed by its designer, Dave Blanton.
