The design began as the Mitsubishi MU-300 Diamond in 1978. In 1985 Beechcraft acquired the rights, and the Diamond II became the Beechjet 400. In 2003 its name changed once again to the Hawker 400XP (for ’extended performance’) for a better fit into the Raytheon family of bizjets.
