Oshkosh After Hours: The Flying Fun Continues

With STOL contests, r/c flying and more, the AirVenture aftershow is worth the price of admission.

Twilight Flight Fest

Among the forms of flight showcased at the Twilight Flight Fest will be STOL demonstrations, including highly modified aircraft such as Steve Henry’s purpose-built Just SuperSTOL Yee-Haw 7 seen here at a STOL Demonstration in April.

As the afternoon air show winds down, it would be easy to retire to your campsite or head to the parking lot at AirVenture 2021, but you could well wind up missing the best part of the show, depending on where your interests lie.

The Twilight Flight Fest promises to deliver up-close and personal entertainment that goes beyond the daily doses of smoke and noise by aerobatic entertainers---we love to watch those, too, but we're always looking for something different.

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday (July 26, 27, 29 and 30) will see Twilight Flight Fest demonstrations hosted in the Ultralight area at 8 p.m. A variety of light-aircraft activities will be showcased---you might catch a STOL demonstration from some of America's best competitors. Other features planned include the Red Bull Air Force skydiving and wingsuit demonstrations, hang gliders and radio-control 3D aerobatic demonstrations with large-scale models.

We caught a few STOL demos at Sun 'n Fun earlier this year. "This is the best part of the airshow," many opined, and we agreed for a number of reasons. We were seeing something different than before, with a seat right up against the runway, and some of the participants were very young aviators---all things we're a fan of. We'll be looking to see all that and more this year in the evenings at AirVenture. See you there!
