It was an exciting achievement for Sporty's Academy last week, as four pilots were issued certificates in the same day.
If you've ever spent the day at the Sporty's universe of aviation wonder near Cincinnati, you won't be surprised by the following statement: Everybody there either seems to be getting into an airplane and going flying or just getting back from having gone flying. That the folks there are a bit nuts about aviation is evident.
At the same time, last Wednesday was a really special day as not one but four Sporty's Academy students tacked on big-ticket items to their certificates, and two of those pilots were Sporty's employees. Sporty's Academy in conjunction with the University of Cincinnati offers a wide array of training, including the area's only degree program option.
The happy pilots are as follows: JC Mayerle is now a Recreational Pilot, and his instructor is Kurtis Kooy; Stephen Brooks is now a Recreational Pilot, and his instructor is Nathan Martin; Matt Meacham, a Sporty's Eastern Cincinnati Aviation employee, is now a Commercial Pilot, and his instructor is Aaron Forte; and Charles Roberts is now a Private Pilot, and his instructor is Stephen Mattes.
Sporty's Academy has the distinction of being the leading issuer of Recreational Certificates in the United States; nearly every one of the school's newly minted Rec Pilots goes on to get their Private ticket, too.
The school maintains a fleet of late-model aircraft, including Cessna 172s and 182s, including those with glass panels, in addition to a Piper Aztec (personally broken in for you by Sporty's founder Hal Shevers) and a Diamond Motorglider.
