New Mooney Diesel Aircraft

Mooney International introduced the first new Mooney models since the restructuring of the company at the Airshow China 2014 in Zhuhai, China. The M10T is a fixed-gear composite trainer equipped with Continental's CD-135 Diesel engine to train new pilots for the Technically Advanced Aircraft that they'll be flying in the future. The M10J will provide an upgrade from the M10T airframe with more luxury and amenities for the owner pilot. In addition, the M10J will be equipped with the CD-155 diesel engine. These two aircraft will provide the general aviation market with a modern aircraft, not only for the mature Western aviation market, but also for the fast-growing Chinese market. "We designed the new M10J model with longtime Mooney fans in mind. The M20J helped change general aviation by making flying practical to more people across the U.S. Now, the M10J promises to do the same for the world. Not just in the U.S., but also in China as its general aviation industry quickly develops," said Dr. Jerry Chen, Mooney CEO. The M10 series is expected to gain certification and begin deliveries in 2017. Visit www.mooney.com.

Nigel Lamb Wins Red Bull Air Races

Britain's Nigel Lamb won the 2014 Red Bull Air Race World Championship with a dramatic victory under pressure at the season finale in Spielberg, Austria. Austria's Hannes Arch ended up a disappointing fourth place in a nail-biting final in front of a sell-out crowd of 35,000 spectators. Although French pilot Nicolas Ivanoff won the race in the Austrian Alps on a sunny afternoon for his second victory this season, the nine points that Lamb won with his fifth consecutive second place was enough to stave off a powerful challenge from local hero Arch. The British pilot secured first place with a grand total of 62 points from the eight-race world championship. "It's just amazing," said Lamb, who came from far behind in the World Championship with a victory in the third race of the season in Malaysia, and then got five straight second-place finishes to overtake Arch and Bonhomme in the standings. "I have to say, my race did not go as planned; my times were not fantastic through the week. It was not a good day today in racing terms. There was never a time I thought I had the Championship secured. I had a good team giving me lots of inputs, the aircraft felt good, and I felt very well supported." Visit www.redbullairrace.com.

Continental To Offer Diesel Retrofits In China

Continental Motors Group (CMG) will offer its CD-100 diesel series for the retrofit of existing aircraft in China. All CD-100 series engines run on Chinese Jet Fuel No. 3, which is available at every Chinese airport. CMG has filed for Chinese Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) of the installation of its diesel piston-aircraft engines CD-135 and CD-155 in the Cessna 172, Piper PA-28 and Diamond DA40. This means that existing Cessna models 172F to S, and Piper PA-151/161 and 181, as well as all DA40 aircraft can be equipped with diesel engines when the STC is granted in 2015. "We plan to support the growth of the Chinese pilot training market with a tailor-made concept. Flight schools will benefit from significantly lower costs operating a fleet of Continental diesel engines as compared to avgas powered aircraft," said Ken Suda, Director, CMG.
